my first animation ! MONATINS. MONATINS
a magical story from the beginning of the World Copyright©1999 Aeo Copyright©2002 "Art & Facts"

please note these are a few excerpts from the booklet, are in slight disorder, text in places is shortened or rearranged, compared to the Original. This is done to give you an impression of what to find in the story. It's probably understandable to children of 5 years, but reading it themselves might have to wait until they are about 7 (I assume this is about right, but I'm no language/child expert!!!)

In the time before our time began, the World was full of weird and wonderful Things. Animals, rocks, water, clouds, everything was different. It took magnums of years for it all to settle into the things and shapes and textures and places we know today.
Of course Things don't always settle as they should just because someone asked for it to be done, or because it might be sensible. No, rather like naughty children there were certain Things which liked to do that which was not sensible nor good for them, or that which annoyed others. ...... Monatins were really rather small and rather hard Things. Shiny or dull, with spikes or twisted points, with dips and dells, smooth or lumpy, as square as a dice or as round as the moon at Moonchange .......... they had three legs and could run extremely fast, but when they were tired or did not want to run, and especially when they were supposed to run, they simply pushed their feet into the surface of wherever they happened to be, AND THAT WAS THAT. One might have been forgiven to think that a still Monatin was part of a foot path or a tree bark, a scale on a fish and so on. For that was another of the Monatins' abilities: to look like SomeThing Else. ........... life was difficult for all creatures as they never knew if they were about to nibble a crispy leaf or pick a juicy cherry, or were going to break a tooth or buckle a beak on a Monatin ..... after uncountable Moonchanges (counting had not been invented as it was never necessary to know how many of anything there were)enough was enough and all Things called a World Meet. Each group of Things sent a spokesperson, a secretary, a member and a cook ....... The plants, animals, even the ponds and rocks had many complaints........ The most annoying aspect was that a Monatin never grew up to be a responsible member of The World ....... Monatins had not even sent a spokesperson..... there were many more Monatins than Things' representatives..... they knew exactly what was going on because they simply took the shape of some of those items needed for such an important meeting.... they became benches.... drinking horns.....writing sticks.....
When Time began just after Nature had created the World, there was no one single Thing more important than another, each had its place and knew what to do. So each was something special and held its own important place. The plants kept the World clean, provided food, shelter, medicines......the animals helped to clean the forests...take the seeds of plants to new crib-places,.....covering those who had no own protection against the weathers..... some rocklets were tall and became basins where clouds could rest, and built walls to protect against some creeping weathers....... clouds were protecting the World against too much sun, carried the winds, took the rain, pulled Moon and Stars and Sun....
Now why were there these Monatins with their annoying behaviour? When Nature made the World, Monatins were the first creatures she created. But having 3 legs they had problems standing still; as they were the first ones they had no example of what to do...... the Monatins saw no other Thing had 3 legs, so they could not copy how to walk or do anything sensibly, they had problems and did not manage to stand still.......... Nature saw what each Thing might be good at and asked each to do a certain job they could do with their skill and knowledge...... as the Monatins were moving about all the time, losing concentration, almost all missed the instructions Nature gave them...... while rolling around, hopping, skipping (trying to learn how to use 3 legs sensibly), the Monatins bumped into other Things. Some of them laughed as a Monatin with 3 legs sticking out at strange angles is funny, others laughed because these uncontrolled movings-about tickled them. Some of the Things got upset thinking that the Monatins were lazy, selfish, had no job they could do and should not be there..... and like children who have to find their own way in the world without good teaching, the Monatins were lost, sad, and soon in trouble ........they learned quickly that Things took notice of them when they were silly, naughty, did not do what was expected..... as they were the smallest Things in the World they learned to imitate all other Things and learned to work as a team. ....... they were very pleased to hear during this World Meet, that they were the only centre of attention, the smallest Things had such power over all other Things and the World. ..... the Meet went on for 7 Suns. As all Things had experience of the Monatins, they had invented and used a secret language. The Monatins never did manage to understand these sounds..... the longer the Meet went on, the more sounds filled the World; melodies as fragile as the mirror on the water, as light as a moon-beam, as mysterious as a spring-morning mist.... The Monatins did not realise that the sounds they heard were ideas, feelings, emotions. Finally this music was so powerful that it became a Life Symphony. ..... In their frustration the Monatins left the Meet.

I hope you enjoyed these few sentences of my story. Of course I won't tell you anything more about the Monatins, the unusual solution the Things found! And you won't find any of the planned illustrations on my site as they are strictly for the illustrated version of the booklet and remain 'secret'. Apart from that, some illustrations together with the story plus some of my poems with illustrations, will be in my Collector's Book. e-mail me if you want to know more. Also, if you are a publisher interested in these, contact me.

The Magic and Mystery of Closeness and Love
Universes

Sleep lifting I lie, absorbing the symphonic song of the nightingale;
it is midnight and tree frogs shout warnings of the silent owl.
The quivering sound of a church bell weaves through old oak branches
and the caress of the full moon's fingers create mosaics on my face.

I lie clothed in an old linnen sheet and breathe night, dreams, earth
listening to my Self, in my half of our ancient olive-wood bed.
Slowly I get born of this fragrant linnen sheet, this my night-skin.
I fold it up, across my body, slowly, collecting its length
in the centre, between two people, two worlds, two universes.
The sheet becomes a stairway towards the other half, to a universe
so well-known to me yet in its sommeil mysterious, distant, vibrant.
This universe I rediscover every day, and I submerge into every night.
I sit up, endlessly belonging to this night lit by mysteries of life;
I animate those sounds and illustrate the light, with my imagination.

The universe that I am is with the universe I belong to.
So precious this earth, this feeling of living, being liquid life.
My spirit glides on the moon's fingers, and flows towards this
other universe next to mine floating in its dreams beyond will, free.

The atoms of my universe need no stairs, see no distance nor barrier
to enter this other universe, so familiar yet undiscovered.
This universe with bright suns of love warming,
with tender moons soothing,
this universe with mysterious planets of hope and wonder,
of strength and courage,
with enchanting galaxies of creativity and understanding,
with flickering stars of hope and aurorae of protection.
This universe where black holes of sadness, fear and uncertainty
are so easily dispersed by my galaxies of caring enchantment.

I melt into this universe by my side, this other universe;
I become this other universe and it becomes me, fusion of atoms.
Two universes, separate and so dependent of each other.

And I realise that somewhere and everywhere there is
One Universe dependent of All, and All make our Eternities.

Autumn

Early evening mists are clothing softly the tired meadow,
blackberries are covered hazily in clear cool dew,
ripe hazelnuts gently whisper their song in a slight breeze,
the maize fields swaying like a creamy ocean
splashing the sound of tired creatures at its feet into sound-hungry mistulets
and ripe cobs sigh, tucked close to hollowing stems.

The last few forgotten bales of straw are hiding
under the thinning hedgerow
where crab apple, sloe and drying elderberries
are competing with ancient trees heavied by pear and chestnut.
A slight shadow, long-legged, elegant, passes slowly across the meadow,
almost invisible, it pauses and two smaller shadows join.

Close by near the garden the ever-busy ears of a rabbit family
peek through the low mist,
and on top of the birchen fence-posts sit some dreaming crows.
The warning shout of a pheasant pierces this milky blanket
and crows and rabbits move on with hurry.

In the garden neat rows of white heads scarved in dark green
and strong tall stems clothed in a cone of lush green
with flower buds waiting to awake, and yellow heads closed for the night.
A comforting perfume of ripe apples and pears,
of freshened soil and of wood smoke from an open hearth
soothes the tiring mind.

And with the music of raspberry canes and early fallen leaves in the air
the lightness changing to darkness,
such magical moments of the calming of summer frenzies
and collecting of these a year's gifts
can be drunk by those who find them.
